Mandriandri Community Center
Mandriandri is a small community in southeast Madagascar. The community lies at the base of a lush primary rain forest and has a population of about 2,500 persons. The community lacks primary school facilities and health services; the nearest school and health center is an hour’s walk away. Because of the long distance and limited resources available for school supplies and lunch, most households choose not to send their children to school.
TAPRFIRE intends to develop a community center, which will consist of a primary school, community health center, plant nursery and wet mill to process coffee. Coffee contributes significantly to households’ revenue. TAPFIRE has already identified land on which to construct the school and health center. Education and health services will be provided on a fee-for-service basis, with a cost-sharing insurance mechanism for employees and participating farming associations.
